2:30PM: Cultivating Yeast: The Birth of Booze - Whether its vinegar or Viognier, yeast and other microorganisms are the driving force behind fermented beverages. From tending to wild microorganisms to incorporating beer yeast into bread, learn about the intricacies of fermentation from this panel of microbial masters. Panelists include Charles Williams of Broken Clock Vinegarworks, Patrick Ceriale of Telegraph Brewing Co., James Burge of Pure Order Brewing Co., and Kevin Ashford of Figueroa Mountain.
The 6th annual Santa Barbara Fermentation Festival will showcase local and regional experts on the history, benefits and preparation of fermented foods. The festival includes samples of 75+ artisan fermented foods from 50+ exhibitors, 4 stages featuring local and regional chefs, health and science experts, and interactive hands-on activities. This all-ages experiential one-day festival celebrates the importance of traditionally fermented foods and beverages and empowers attendees to make these foods at home.
Each year, the Farm-to-Bar area gets a little bit sweeter - this year, we have 5x the space and 3x the vendors pouring traditional alcoholic beverages: wild ales, sour beers, cask-aged concoctions, jun, mead, cider, cyser, high-alcohol Kombucha, limoncello, tequila, vodka, gin, whiskey, shrubs, and more!
